İlkay Gündoğan (, ; born 24 October 1990) is a German footballer who plays as a box-to-box midfielder for the German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national football team. Gündoğan is also capable of playing anywhere in the midfield. He can play as a central midfielder, defensive midfielder and also he is capable of playing in the attacking midfielder position. Gündoğan is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. He began his career at VfL Bochum, playing in its reserves, before joining 1. FC Nürnberg in 2009. Two years later he was signed by Dortmund for around €4 million, winning the double of the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in his first season there, and then helping them finish runners-up the UEFA Champions League, scoring in the final. Gündoğan made his senior international debut for Germany in 2011, and was part of their squad which reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2012. Gündoğan has earned a starter spot for both Borussia Dortmund and Germany, however he got an injury in the 2013–14 season which ruled him out for a whole year, meaning he would miss the 2014 FIFA World Cup which Germany would go on to win. ==Club career==
